SuQiong (Su) Yu serves Mission College students in the Counseling and VALOR Center for Veterans.

Originally, Su was an immigrant and began her career trajectory as a student assistant at the Asian and Pacific American Student Success Program at City College of San Francisco (CCSF).

According to Su, "Half of my high school friends without native speaking abilities did not go to college due to linguistic, economic and social barriers. I was upset about their decisions, but I decided to go to college because I believe in my ability to succeed through higher education! And I made it!"

She obtained her AA-T degree at CCSF and transferred to UC Davis. As a first-generation transfer student, Su managed to study abroad in South Korea and Japan by receiving scholarships from Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program and UCEAP Promise Awards.

Working with diverse college students within the public higher education system sparked her desire to become a community college counselor. Su has worked with first-generation college students from low-income families, Asian and Pacific Islander students, international students, justice-impacted students, older adults, English learners, and students with disabilities. Her career goal is to serve non-traditional community college students to change their life trajectories through higher education.

She speaks Hoishanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and conversational Japanese.
