John Schoppert has a passion for reducing textbook costs for students and has helped create and grow OER programs that collectively have saved students over two million dollars in text savings. He also has worked on reimagining library environments to increase a sense of belonging, and to provide needed active learning and study spaces for student success.
Most recently, John has served as the University Librarian at Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), where he provided leadership and supervision to the university’s Library Services. His career in higher education also includes previously serving as Dean of Instructional Support at Columbia Gorge Community College.
He is looking forward to supporting Mission College in helping students achieve their education goals.

Fast Facts
In his personal life, John is an avid traveler and has visited countries in Europe while helping his wife complete a project on Holocaust memorials, as well as exploring the continental US, and Hong Kong. In past lives, he has been a musician, a baker, and a bookstore owner.
