For Immediate Release

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - At a time when Silicon Valley faces critical talent shortages in hardware manufacturing and tech entry barriers remain high, Mission College’s Workforce Innovation Office has demonstrated that a four-year university diploma isn't the only gateway into premier tech firms.

Through an intensive employer partnership model, the office announced that seven students from its Mechatronics Certificate Program have secured full-time technical careers with leading regional employers, achieving a 64% direct hiring placement rate for the participating cohort.

The initiative coordinated 64 corporate evaluations and 25 multi-round interviews across eight companies, placing local graduates into full-time roles at industry heavyweights including Applied Materials, Western Digital, Super Micro Computer, Cardinal Robotics, and Pactron.

Why This Matters to Silicon Valley and the Community

  • A Direct Pipeline to High-Wage, Debt-Free Careers: With the average cost of a four-year engineering degree continuing to escalate, Mission College’s certificate model provides regional residents including first-generation and non-traditional students an affordable, debt-free pathway into high-paying semiconductor, robotics, and advanced manufacturing careers.

  • Solving the Local Hardware and Semiconductor Talent Squeeze: While software hiring has seen volatility, the national push to onshore manufacturing and expand domestic semiconductor infrastructure has created intense demand for skilled technicians. Mission College is directly filling this regional gap with local, highly trained talent ready to work on day one.

  • A High-Touch Model That Challenges Traditional Placement: Rather than relying on job boards, the college’s Workforce Innovation Office functions as a hands-on career concierge, personally matching 11 candidates to 54 resume screenings and 25 intensive interviews across eight firms to achieve unprecedented hiring conversion rates.

"Silicon Valley companies don't just need theory; they need hands-on problem solvers who can design, program, and troubleshoot complex automated systems on day one," said Jeff Pallin, Workforce Innovation Dean. "These placements prove that community college workforce programs are essential economic engines. We are keeping local talent right here in Santa Clara and showing our community that rewarding, high-tech careers are within reach without four years of college debt."

Mission College’s Mechatronics program integrates mechanical systems, computer programming, and robotics, equipping students to maintain, troubleshoot, and innovate smart manufacturing systems across the Bay Area.
