Counseling Services

Academic Counseling

Academic counseling begins with educational goal-setting; exploring educational options and opportunities; evaluating educational backgrounds, and providing the student with clear, concise and up-to-date educational information. Counselors are able to assist the student who is still undecided about his/her major.

Career Counseling

Career counseling provides the student with an opportunity for clarification and integration of career and educational goals; the study of careers and lifestyles; and vocational and career assessment testing. Counselors also provide courses and one-to-one career counseling.

Personal Counseling

  • Available from the Counseling Office, SEC Room 139, 408-855-5034. Crisis counseling is available for students in acute emotional distress or for those experiencing a personal crisis that requires immediate attention. For situations when a student is a potential danger to self or others, call 911.

  • Personal counseling is available through the Counseling Office and Student Health Services also for non-urgent matters.

    • Counseling Office: Personal counseling is provided on a drop-in basis or by appointment. Personal counseling can help students resolve issues that interfere with school. These problems can include: dealing with death, illness, divorce; problems with parents, spouses or significant others; dealing with feelings that arise because of lack of financial or emotional support; stress management and coping skills; improving self esteem; overcoming test anxiety; and more.

    • Student Health Services offers personal counseling. Please check out the Student Health Services Mental Health Resources for additional details and resources. SEC 106, 408-855-5140.
