Melodie  Cameron

Counselor, DSPS and Veterans Counselor

Melodie has been counseling at Mission College since August of 2015. She previously worked at San Jose State University for 8 years as a career and disability counselor. At San Jose State University, she worked with students with disabilities on their academic and career planning and helped to build Veteran Services through the Career Center and Accessible Education Center during a time when no Veterans Center existed. Prior to entering higher education, Melodie worked in alternative high schools in the Bay Area running psycho-educational groups to help students with social and emotional skills and volunteered in Santa Clara County as a Suicide and Crisis Counselor and Rape Crisis Counselor. Melodie has a passion for working with students using a person-centered and career development approach. She believes that everyone has the right to work in a career that they are passionate about. Her goal is to help each student achieve this.

Fast Facts

Melodie was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. After backpacking Europe during her junior year of college, she decided to explore California on a National Student Exchange program. Over a decade later she has established new roots on the West Coast, although still remains a Red Sox fan.   Melodie is the first in her family to receive a Bachelors and Master’s degree and is passionate about working with students to devise a plan of success for their academic and career endeavors.  Melodie strives to help each student explore their natural talents and create an educational and career path that will pull upon unique strengths.  When Melodie is not at Mission College, she is a busy wife and mom of two children who explores the outdoors and enjoys sharing the love of cooking with her family.
