Sac State Partners With Mission On Pathway To Black Honors College

SACRAMENTO, CA -- Sacramento State University and Mission College have formalized a groundbreaking Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to bolster academic achievement and celebrate the rich legacy of Black history, life, culture, and contributions. This partnership aims to provide unprecedented opportunities for high-achieving students while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Black heritage.


The MOA, signed by both institutions, signifies a commitment to collaborative efforts in advancing educational excellence and ensuring equitable access to higher education. Under this agreement, students from Mission College will have a guaranteed pathway to admission into the prestigious Sac State Black Honors College of California (BHC), provided they meet specific academic and commitment criteria.

"This partnership underscores our shared dedication to academic excellence and equity, ensuring that deserving students have the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and enriching environment."

Cal State Sacramento has memorialized our long term partnerships with the 15 community colleges. Representatives attended a signing ceremony on June 13 at the university.

Key provisions of the MOA include:

  • Guaranteed admission into the Black Honors College at Sac State for Mission College students meeting specified GPA and eligibility requirements.
  • Priority admission for students demonstrating a commitment to learning about Black history, life, culture, and contributions.
  • Collaborative initiatives aimed at enhancing academic success, mental health support, and career development for students.
  • Joint programming and campus events to foster engagement and awareness of the opportunities available through the BHC.

The partnership between Sac State and Mission College represents a significant step towards advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. By providing a pathway to academic excellence and celebrating the richness of Black heritage, both institutions are poised to make a lasting impact on students' lives and communities.

The Black Honors College Signing Ceremony took place on Thursday, June 13, when Cal State  Sacramento memorialized long term partnerships with the 15 community colleges. The signing of the MOU is the first step to codifying a partnership that will ultimately address the unique program and opportunities with each community college while simultaneously improving a sustainable transfer pipeline.
