Honors Eligibility & Requirements

Honors Program Eligibility

New and Continuing Mission College Student Requirements
  • Completion of ENG 001A or 001AX (or equivalent) with a B or better
  • Completion of 9 UC/CSU transferable units
  • 3.25 transferable GPA


  • A Bachelors Degree with a 3.0 GPA
First-time Freshman Requirements
  • Eligible for ENG 001A via the Placement Tool or AP scores
  • 3.5 High School GPA (unweighted) in A-G requirements

If you do not meet the continuing student or freshman requirements, please contact the Honor Program Coordinator at to discuss possible provisional admission.

West Valley College Honors Transfer Program students are guaranteed admission but still must complete the Honors Program application and the Mission College Honors Canvas group.  More information regarding West Valley's program can be found HERE.

Participation Requirements
To maintain active membership in the Honors Program, students must:
  • Join Canvas Honors Group (by invitation upon approval)
  • Complete an orientation and an educational plan (click HERE for more information). 
  • Maintain 3.25 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Recommended: Enroll in at least two Honors courses each year.

Honors Scholar Requirements

As a member of the Honors Program, you have the opportunity to graduate as an Honors Scholar, one of the highest academic awards granted by Mission College. To become an Honors Scholar, Honors students must:

  • Maintain a 3.25 or higher GPA
  • Complete a minimum of 15 units of Honors coursework (at least 9 units must be completed at Mission College) 
  • Recommended: COU 017, Transfer Sucess and Life Transitions or COU 007H, University Transfer Planning – Honors

Applications are due the second Friday in February.


The Mission College Honors Program is a now proud member of the UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (UCLA TAP)! Mission College Honors students are eligible to be TAP Certified upon application to UCLA and that certification gives students priority admission into the College of Letters and Sciences at UCLA. The requirements for UCLA TAP Certification are as follows:

  • at least 15 units of honors coursework (at least 9 units must be completed at Mission) with no more than 5 of those units completed in the spring before transfer.
  • UC transferable GPA of 3.25 by the end of Winter prior to transfer.
  • Completion of all minimum major prep and GE (IGETC recommended) as indicated on ASSIST.
  • Confirmed good standing by the Honors Program Director or Counselor.
