Mary Ann Medrano was born and raised in Stockton, CA. She moved to the Bay Area and was fortunate enough to get a position where she facilitates equitable and inclusive support systems to reduce barriers for student success. She has worked in the Transfer Center and now works the DSPS Office serving students with disabilities.

In her role, she has been flourishing and growing professionally. She has joined different committees that reminded her of her passion and beliefs. She is the co-founder of an organization called NAKEM California. NAKEM California fulfills her yearning desire to make an impact in the Filipino Community. Overall, she wants to be intentional in her work with social justice, cultural democracy, and emancipatory education.

Mary Ann is a first-generation college student and the first in her family to receive a master’s degree. She graduated with a Master of Education with a focus in Student Development and Affairs, from the American College of Education in Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from UC Davis.
 
Mary Ann also received a Certificate in Women in Leadership from Cornell University.

She offers the following advice to students, “Surround yourself with positive people and be kind to yourself with whatever obstacle that comes your way, especially when trying to reach your goals.”
