Spring 2016 STEM Peer Mentors

The mission of the AANAPISI STEM Peer Mentor Program is to foster academic success within entry-level STEM courses. The goals of the Peer Models are: (1) to introduce students to successful college student behaviors within the basic skills classroom; (2) to provide students with relevant and timely information, directives, and skills that will advance their academic success and; (3) to support students in adopting, and sustaining, successful college student behaviors.

Edgar is a Biological Science major who is planning to go to medical school and become a physician. He loves how challenging the sciences can be, but also enjoys helping others succeed in these subjects. One of his biggest passions is music. His primary instrument is the piano, but he also plays many others like the clarinet, guitar and drums. Aside from music and school, he likes to ride his road bike around town, play video games, cook, and bake.

Ana is a second year student at Mission College and is majoring in Microbiology.  In high school she was a student intern at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla and was inspired to be a research scientist.  Currently she is active in her volunteer work at the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley  where she rehabilitates injured/orphaned animals.  Her hobbies include hiking, photography, and taking care of animals.

Erin is in her fourth semester at Mission college and is very excited to be a peer mentor this semester! She plans on majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and then getting a masters degree in Biomedical Engineering. She enjoys drawing and writing in her spare time.

JennyLee Stone is a second-year student at Mission College who hopes to transfer to UC Davis in the fall of 2016 with a major in genetics. She plans to pursue a career as a genetic counselor or genetic engineer. As a peer mentor, she hopes to be a positive influence in the lives of the students she is mentoring. When she's not out saving the world, she enjoys working out and sleeping in her spare time.

SAO 1: AANAPISI STEM Peer Mentors will help facilitate further exposure to course content and encourage positive study behaviors
SAO 2: AANAPSI Peer Mentors will convene study groups
SAO 3: AANAPISI Peer Mentors will increase student engagement with their faculty
