Shruti began her community college teaching career in 2001. Her graduate research was in the field of high-temperature superconductivity. She taught at City College of San Francisco before moving to Mission College.
Shruti has worked on several projects designed to promote equity and excellence among students. She is also an early adopter of online teaching and developed a robust online physics laboratory course. She has presented at several online teaching conferences.
