Tonya (she/her) has been an educator in the California Community Colleges since 2006. During that time, she has taught in the English departments at Las Positas College, Ohlone College, and College of Marin and worked as an instructional specialist. In addition to being an instructor, Tonya has served as a director and a dean.
In her current role as the Dean of Educational Success Programs at College of Marin, she has provided leadership for the ESL Department, the ESL Lab, the Tutoring and Learning Center, the Reading and Writing Lab, the Online Writing Center, the Umoja Equity Institute, the Learning Communities of Puente, Umoja, Mi Familia, and MAPS, Guided Pathways, and the development of two Student Equity Plans.
Through her work, Tonya has demonstrated her commitment to student success, equity, racial justice, and inclusion. She has been deeply engaged in professional development and learning initiatives, student learning outcomes assessment, and partnering with community organizations. Tonya earned her MFA in Creative Writing and English from Mills College and her BA in English and Psychology from Pitzer College.
She is eager to join our college community and contribute to the efforts to support students to reach their educational goals and to continue to cultivate a culture of care at Mission College.
