Fire Academy Puts Cadets Into Jobs

SANTA CLARA, Calif.-- Members of Mission College's first Firefighter 1 Academy have already been hired on and are fighting fires during this wildfire season.

Marcus Haraguchi and Edmund Thong were hired by CalFire; Hailey Scola was hired by Palo Alto; Sean Pham was hired by Marin County; Kevin Tann, Anthony Tran and Phillip Wong were hired by San Francisco; Anthony Khauv was hired by San Jose and Brett Solano was hired by a fire company in Washington.

The College's second academy class starts August 27 and is already taking on a waitlist. The entire Fire Tech Department for its Academy, degree and EMT programs has seen an increase in enrollment compared to numbers last Fall.

The Academy is a full-semester, full-time course which prepares cadets for a future in firefighting. There is a capacity of 30 cadets for each semester. It is part of a three-prong approach to the Fire Tech program, which features an EMT aspect, Fire Tech degree and Firefighter 1 Academy. More information is at firetech.missioncollege.edu.
