SANTA CLARA, Calif.— The Mission College Symphony will bring together 14 pianists together for the California Concerto Weekend Gala on Sunday, January 14 from 2 p.m. To 5 p.m. at West Valley College Theater.
 
In its sixth year, the California Concerto Weekend provides a unique opportunity for amateur pianists over age 25 to receive three days of intense preparation, lessons, coaching, and rehearsing. It ends in a polished concerto with the Mission College Symphony.
 
Tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for students/seniors and free to West Valley and Mission College students. Tickets can be purchased online via Eventbrite.
 
Fourteen pianists were selected from international application submissions to participate in this four-day workshop and concert.  These talented pianists are amateurs from around the country and Canada, that all share a passion for music, while making their living by day in such professions as doctors, lawyers, media executives, engineers and scientists.  
 
This year’s faculty includes internationally acclaimed pianists Jon Nakamatsu and Igor Resnianski; Mission College artistic director and conductor Joseph Ordaz; and assistant conductor Michael Giel.
 
The gala concert repertoire will include movements from piano concertos composed by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Mozart, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff and Saint-Saens.
 
There will be a free, open-to-the-public rehearsal on Saturday, January 13, from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. with full orchestra, also at West Valley’s theater.  Resnianski will be coaching the pianists in the morning, and Nakamatsu will be coaching the pianists in the afternoon.
