SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Mission College in Santa Clara will host a two-day Equity Summit on its campus on Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th. 

Community Colleges from the greater Bay Area are expected to attend. Pacific Educational Group, The Education Trust-West, Tacoma Community College, Carnegie Math Pathways are also expected. 

"Equity is being fair and impartial; it’s meeting students where they’re at while understanding their various backgrounds and experiences" said Mission College Director of Student Equity Ken Songco. "“Through equity, we could better respond to the needs of all of our student populations and transform our institutional strategies to help all students become successful."

The keynote speakers include Dr. Will Walker, the Director of Higher Education Partnerships, talking about achieving equity in schools; Dr. Frances Kendall, the author of Understanding White Privilege; Dr. John Kellermeir, who will discuss teaching mathematics to all types of students and Dr. Veronica Neal from DeAnza College, who will deep dive into “getting real about equity through conversations.” 

Some of the breakout sessions will include creating equity-minded environments; ensuring success for all California Students; the latest developments for Dreamers and empowering that community; and what equity looks like on campus and in the classroom and fostering a sense of belonging.
