Urias Garcia is a Counselor at Mission College. He joined Mission College in 2017. Urias comes to the college by way of Orange Coast College and Cypress College where he was instrumental in helping both colleges develop First Year Experience Programs designed to assist students in bridging the gap from high school to college. Urias has also worked at East Los Angeles College and Pasadena City College. At Pasadena City College, Urias worked for the college's nationally recognized, and award winning, First Year Experience Program. Urias has also been a counselor for the EOPS program at Orange Coast College and has advised STEM students in the MESA Engineering Program (MEP) in California State University, Long Beach.
His areas of interest include program development, social justice, professional development, as well as career, academic, transfer, and personal crisis counseling for students. Furthermore, Urias has taught courses Career and Life Planning, Educational Planning, Major Exploration and the Latino Student Experience.

Urias was raised in Boyle Heights, a low income, immigrant community in the heart
of Los Angeles and is the youngest of six siblings. Urias found his calling to counseling
after being motivated by his own counselor to complete college after stopping out
of for nine years. Urias believes education is transformative and empowering and it
is his hope that he can make a difference in people's lives.
