Mission College TRIO/SSS ACCESS Program - Eligibility and Application

Students Served

TRIO/SSS ACCESS works with 160 Mission College students who are:

  • Enrolled at Mission College during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • Planning on attaining a certificate, an A.A./A.S. degree, and/or transferring to a 4-year university.
Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for participation in the TRIO/SSS ACCESS program, applicants must first meet these minimum qualifications:

  • Be enrolled at Mission College.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Have submitted a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
  • Meet one or more of these requirements established by the U.S. Department of Education:
    • First-generation to college (neither parent nor legal guardian has received a Bachelor's degree in the United States).
    • Low-income (based on family size).
    • Learning or physical disability (as confirmed through DSPS)

In addition to these minimum qualifications, Federal regulations require TRIO/SSS ACCESS to consider other prioritized requirements, including the following data, among others:

  • Grade Point Average
  • Course Placement  Level
  • Number of Units Completed
  • ... and more


What is the process for applying to the TRIO/SSS ACCESS Program?
  1. Print the TRIO/SSS ACCESS Program Student Application
    or, pick up an application from the TRIO/SSS ACCESS Program Office located on the first floor of Mission College main building inside office C1-117. If the office is closed, blank application forms can be found in the plastic box on the wall to the right of the TRIO/SSS ACCESS Office door.
  2. Return the completed & signed application, any application-requested verification, and unofficial transcripts (if applicable) to the TRIO/SSS ACCESS Program office or mail it to:

Other Requirements

Once accepted into the TRIO/SSS ACCESS program, students must meet the following requirements to stay in good standing:

  1. Be working towards maintaining at least a 2.75 GPA.
  2. Complete ACCESS Orientation requirements.
  3. Complete a Grade Progress Form with each professor each semester and turn them in by the end of the 6th week of classes. [In order to comply with Federal requirements, all TRIO/SSS ACCESS students are now required to complete Grade Progress Forms.] Students with Progress Report grades of "C" or lower must make an appointment with a TRIO/SSS ACCESS Counselor to discuss improvement options.
  4. Meet with a TRIO/SSS ACCESS Counselor at least once a semester to create/revise your Education Plan.
