What does “regular and substantive interaction between the students and instructor” look like, and how can you ensure your course has it? This presentation introduces you to “regular and effective contact” and provides techniques and strategies you can utilize to ensure that your online course has effective and substantive interaction.
Mission College Instructor Online Course Checklist
This "checklist" was developed to assist faculty in evaluating each of their online course sections to ensure that the course adheres to what is required by law, meets accreditation standards for online instruction, and follows best practices to achieve regular and effective student contact and student success. It includes links to resources and best practices. It includes links to best practices examples and resources.
DSPS is the primary resource to aid faculty with the accessibility of their course
content. They facilitate the closed captioning of video content and can also provide
information regarding assistive technology and the tools available to create accessible

The Distance Learning Committee is responsible for faculty training. Go to their Website to learn about the Committee, read the meeting minutes, and review Committee documents.
This Committee is charged with checking the accuracy and completeness of submitted course data and its compliance with institutional procedures. The committee reviews new online courses to ensure that their is a plan for "effective student contact" since you will not be meeting with your students on campus. For information on how to get an on.line course approved, refer to the Faculty FAQ.

Multimedia Resources & Development Tools
Mission College Instructional Technology & Services department offers lecture capturing services for faculty. Lecture capturing allows instructors to record what happens in their classroom and make it available digitally. For more information, contact Greg Shaw at 408.855.5132.
Meet with faculty, staff, and students in real time, in groups of two or even hundreds with just a PC, a telephone and an Internet connection. CCC Confer is the California Community Colleges' FREE Web and phone-based collaboration service. You can conduct classes, share documents, presentations, poll your audience and use a white board for taking notes. There are public and private chat features and the ability to archive the entire meeting for later playback.
Sidekick is a collaborative project combining the resources of six programs under one, easy-to-use website. Each program is committed to helping you create engaging multimedia content that is accessible to all community college students. From tactile graphics to webcasting and closed captioning, the lineup of programs offer you the tools needed to accomplish any multimedia project. Each of these resources are at least partially funded through the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office.
Streaming Videos and Electronic Books
The Mission College Library provides access to online films and e-books. They may be accessed through the Library's Online Catalog or directly from the databases, which are available from the Library Research Databases page.
