Susan Monahan receives Menlo College's Dean's Award.Santa Clara, California. Susan Monahan, Mission College's career and transfer center advisor, was recently presented with the Menlo College Dean's Award for her outstanding support of Menlo's Professional Studies program. This is the first time the award has been given and Monahan was Menlo College's clear choice.

The relationship between the two Colleges is close because Menlo offers classes on the Mission College campus, allowing their students to earn undergraduate credits without fighting traffic all the way to Menlo College's headquarters in Atherton. This partnership also affords Mission College students guaranteed admission to Menlo College if minimum requirements are met. There are currently 70 students enrolled in the Professional Studies program that meets one or two times per week for eight-week sessions, allowing students to earn a Bachelor's Degree in just 20 months. The first 15 graduates of the program were acknowledged during a ceremony held in May.

Susan Monahan has been a key player in the development of this partnership and is credited with doing everything in her power to ensure that it is successful and grows. "We were lucky to meet Susan early-on in the negotiations and she has championed our relationship and supported our program 100%," said Dr. James Woolever, Dean of Professional Studies at Menlo College. For her part, Monahan shares, "I was truly touched and surprised to be given Menlo College's first Dean's Award. It is a very nice and special honor."

Mission College, in Santa Clara, enrolls nearly 10,000 students each semester and is one of two community colleges in the West Valley-Mission Community College District based in Saratoga, California. Menlo College currently enrolls approximately 600 undergraduate students and was recently named "One of the best colleges in the West" by the Princeton Review.
