Omar  Murillo

Program Director , AANAPISI Grant

Omar Murillo comes to Mission college from Salinas, CA, also known as “The Salad Bowl”. He has 13 years of experience working in various institutions of higher education and enjoys making authentic connections with students, staff, faculty, and administrators in an effort to ensure a welcoming institutional culture is developed and sustained. In his previous role as Program Coordinator of TRIO SSS at CSUMB, Omar provided budget administration, leadership, direction and coordination for the program and developed partnerships with staff, faculty and research areas to create and provide an inclusive climate supportive of first generation, low-income and students with disabilities.

Aside from his educational work, Omar has been involved in community organizations for 10 years, currently serving as the Board President for the Alisal Center for the Fine Arts (ACFA), a creative hub in Salinas, Ca that focuses on connecting, teaching  and strengthening the community through the performing and visual arts.

Fast Facts

On his free time, Omar enjoys playing music (he has played the drums for most of his life), spending time with loved ones, laughing, taking his dog “Mia” out on walks, exercising, eating/cooking, and sharing his positive energy with the world.
