Thuy Trang teaches orientation and career exploration classes in the Counseling department at Mission College. The orientation class provides first-time entering college students an opportunity to understand and utilize the resources available at Mission College as well as learn about educational and career options. The career exploration class utilizes popular career assessments like the Strong Interest Inventory to help students pick an appropriate major and/or career. The class also covers resume and interviewing skills for the job search process. Her current interest is developing and teaching an online version of the career exploration class.
Her areas of expertise in counseling include pre-professional advising (for pre-med and pre-pharm students) and career/job search assistance. Like the other counseling faculty, she provides general counseling and advisement for all students seeking certificates, degrees and/or transfer pathways.
Prior to joining Mission College in 2005, Thuy held both part-time and full-time counseling, advising and teaching positions at other bay area community colleges like San Jose City College, West Valley College, and Cañada College. She has worked as a peer advisor at UC Berkeley and as an undergraduate advisor at San Francisco State University.
